Information

  • Being a radio controller is often an unseen role but is the voice in most volunteers ears. This role can be highly challenging but also very rewarding managing teams and deployments to varying jobs that will be passed in from multiple locations.

Course Content

The course is there to provide candidates with the knowledge to operate effectively within a Control Room Environment. Candidates before the course should have a basic understanding of the St John Event Structure and use of St John Radio Network. The content of the course covers the following topics;

 

  • Introduction into Control: Provide Candidates with knowledge into the reasons why we have Control Rooms, the St John Ambulance Event Structure and the roles Event Controllers undertake.
  • Control Environment: Provide Candidates with basic knowledge of how to setup a Control Room and the equipment used as well as locations you may find them.
  • Control Procedures: Provide Candidates with the knowledge of St John Ambulance Control Procedures and when to use them on an Event.
  • Paperwork & Software: Provide Candidates with the knowledge of St John Ambulance Paperwork and Software used within the organisation. Also to equip with the knowledge of how to log effectively at Events,
  • Tracking of assets: To equip candidates with the basic knowledge of Map Reading as well as other tools available to track assets.
  • Call Categorisation: To equip Candidates with the knowledge of Call Categorisation and be able to identify what presenting complaint receive what response.
  • Communication and Information Handling: To be able to equip candidates with the knowledge on what information is required to be passed and to who and how it is passed.
  • Incident Management: Provide Candidates with the knowledge and understand of Incident Management as well as an understanding of what different type of incidents can occur within a SJA Event (Planned/Unplanned).
